On October 4, 2022, Overwatch 2 will be made available as a free-to-play game for all users to download, marking the last days of the game’s original version.
Seasonal battle passes, a system of incentives that offers a variety of cosmetics to players who put in the time, are a given with the switch to free-to-play.
The loot box system, a mainstay of Overwatch since the debut of the first game, will eventually be replaced with the battle pass system.
A free rewards path and a premium path will also be available, similar to seasonal battle passes in other well-known online games. The creators estimate that each battle pass season will last nine weeks.
What will it cost you, then?
The Battle Pass
Each premium seasonal battle pass for Overwatch 2 will cost 1,000 Overwatch Coins, according to their official blog post that covered additional information regarding the battle passes.
Players can purchase more of this new cash to buy items from the shop or Battle Pass Boosts in OW2. The cost of those is unknown, however if gamers want to get the premium battle pass, they must pay 1,000 Overwatch Coins, which is equal to $10.
A Watchpoint Pack, which costs $40 and immediately grants owners the premium battle pass for season one, was also available from Blizzard prior to the debut of OW2 on October 4. Additionally, it gives the buyer 2,000 Overwatch Coins, which, if spent on nothing else, are sufficient for the season two and season three battle passes.
On October 4, the game's official release date, Overwatch 2's Season 1 will be officially available.
On December 6, season two will start in full force. If, as the developers promised, seasons last nine weeks, season three will launch on February 7.
