100 Thieves fell shy of expectations in 2023, and changes are already being made. Just 13 games into the 2023 season, 100 Thieves fire Cristophe #Kaas van Oudheusden as their head League of Legends coach. 100 Thieves, who were tipped as possible #LCS championship contenders before the season, have had a disappointing start of the year, requiring a coaching staff shift.
The squad has appointed associate coach and former #LEC mid laner Nukeduck to the post of acting head coach in Kaas’ place. Danny #Dandan Le Comte, the chief coach of 100 Thieves’ Challengers-level side, has also been promoted to the main LCS squad.
In a statement posted to his personal twitter account, Kaas said, “100 Thieves management imagined certain values for the head coach position and they did not end up matching with me. That along, with recent outcomes led to their choice.
With a record of 5-8 after six weeks, 100 Thieves hold seventh position in the 2023 LCS season. They would not be in the playoff group if the Spring Split ended tonight. The squad has been incredibly streaky so far in 2023, going on a four-game winning streak to open the division before falling into a rut where they have only won one of their last eight games.
Friday’s critical loss to CLG put 100 Thieves far behind Counter Logic in the battle for the last knockout spot in the Spring Split. In three distinct regular season head to head matches this split, 100 Thieves were swept, and FlyQuest, C9 and CLG had tiebreakers in their favor. If 100 Thieves wins all of the remaining games, they can end the season with a best record of 10-8.
To even have a remote shot of reaching the postseason, 100 Thieves must win three out of their next five games. There has never been a division with a six-team playoff structure where a team with seven wins advanced for the LCS playoffs. Fortunately, Immortals, Dignitas and TSM are three teams that 100 Thieves have already defeated in 2023 when they played them in three of their final games of the split.

On March 9th, the start of the week seven of the LCS, 100 Thieves and their recently appointed head coach Nukeduck will return to the LCS stage for one final playoff drive. The squad will play Golden Guardians, who have won eight of their last nine games, to begin its final run.
