In the course of the last couple of weeks, we have been regularly reporting and updating our readers about PGL Major Antwerp 2022. From May 9th to May 22nd, the gaming world had the chance to witness this popular event and the very best CSGO teams.
PGL Major is one of the biggest annual CSGO events worldwide. As per usual, only one team gets the right to call themselves the absolute CSGO champion. This year’s title went to FaZe Clan.
Let us briefly recap the final day of the event and relive some of the most exciting moments from this year’s competition.
The Antwerp Fairytale
The two esports giants FaZe and NaVi met in the final matchup of the tournament. This in turn made reliable predictions about the outcome of the match almost impossible as both teams were extremely successful in the playoff runs.
One of the highlights of the event was the fact that Finn “karrigan” Andersen won his first long-awaited Major title. With regard to his successful long-term career, the title was surely well-deserved. His situation can be somewhat compared to Leonardo DiCaprio’s journey to win an oscar for more than a decade.
The Game Recap
FaZe is commonly known for their early starts. As expected, the team won the first round in a dominating fashion. Although both teams are considered legendary within the CSGO community, it was very obvious that NaVi was in trouble from the very beginning. Since the beginning of the showdown, the pressure of the event has been too overwhelming for the Ukrainian squad.
Despite their efforts to calm down the storm brought up by FaZe, NaVi was unable to get themselves together due to the advantage that FaZe was able to get in the early rounds. Every time the Ukrainian squad would show signs of a possible comeback, they would immediately get stopped by the sheer dominance of FaZe players, “rain” in particular.
Thus, it was no surprise that he was announced the MVP of the finals. From the pistol round until the very last moments of the matchup, “rain” played calmly and in a composed manner. Moreover, he did not rush his decisions and managed to keep his team ahead.
The late rounds of Nuke were the only rounds where NaVi had any chances of winning. They were able to pick up a small confidence boost following some great shootouts, but once again the individual strength of FaZe was just too much for them.
After losing the Nuke, NaVi’s spirit was completely crushed. This in turn led to them being annihilated on the Inferno, leaving the trophy in the hands of Team FaZe.
